Earthquake hits Oklahoma and Nebraska: United States Geological Survey







POWERFUL earthquakes tore through Oklahoma and Nebraska today, peaking at magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale. Here are the latest earthquake updates and live news from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).




A large 4.3 magnitude  struck 27km west-southwest of Perry, Oklahoma today at 11.22 BST.


The tremors hit deep underground at a depth of 4km with the tremors spreading as far out as Stillwater, Langston and Tonkawa.


The earthquake struck about 83.3km north of Oklahoma capital Oklahoma City.


Just an hour prior to the Oklahoma earthquake, a weaker magnitude 3.3 quake was recorded 26km west-southwest of Perry.


Then around 10.33am BST a magnitude 3.3 earthquake erupted 37km east-southeast of Stapleton Nebraska.
